Art Travel Tours

Meet Your Hosts

carl and joeline

Experienced and personable hosts, Carl and Joeline Wieburg, want to invite you to Guatemala. In the U.S., Carl was a basketball coach, teacher, and high school Principal.  Joeline was an artist, art instructor, and Art Gallery owner.  For years they put together team trips, senior trips, and educational excursions.  The popularity of these trips grew and parents, community members, and friends soon wanted to participate in the fun.  Carl found himself also being a part time certified travel agent.  A combined tour of Southern Calif., finishing with a cruise to Mexico for 60 people from 5 different states is just one example of some of the trips the Wieburg’s put together.

After retiring from education in Texas, it was time for the adventures to really began.  Carl accepted a position as General Director (Superintendent) of a private school in Cochabamba, Bolivia.  They sold their lake house, which was a perfect place to paint, closed Joeline’s Art Gallery, and temporarily moved to South America.

There, Joeline studied and incorporated the colorful and very different art techniques of Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay into her own art.   However, never to be without students, she also started teaching art in Bolivia.

Two years later, out of the blue, a Head Hunter contacted Carl and he is now the General Director (Superintendent) of a large school in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Again, not one to let any opportunities pass, in Guatemala Joeline added stone sculpture as a new medium.  She has been invited to show her sculptures for the last two years in very prestigious shows in Antigua and Guatemala City.  Acceptance into the Guatemala art scene was quick and her art again expanded as she absorbed the styles and techniques of Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Mexico, San Salvador, Belize and Honduras.  South America and Central America have had a huge influence not only on Joeline’s art, but have provided a wonderful adventure for the couple.  No matter where she goes, students are attracted to her personality and her methods of teaching art.  She now has day and night classes in Guatemala City.

Carl and Joeline would like to share Joeline’s talents as an artist and as an instructor, with a focus on South and Central America colors and techniques.  Join them, stay in their beautiful home, receive hours of detailed, entertaining, and informative art instruction, and at the same time let them show you some of Guatemala.   It is a beautiful, historic country that is sure to please your color senses, and the food will definitely please your palate.  Antigua, the ancient capitol of South and Central American, is on the Bucket List for many people and is not to be missed.  You will spend an entire day in this Colonial Spanish city with its underlying Mayan culture.  Active volcanos watch over this city, making it one of the most photographed and painted cities in the world.
